Significance of Gooseberry or Nellikkai

Karthigai Masam (November to December) is a highly auspicious Tamil month. Fasting and pujas performed in this month is believed to be highly meritorious. Special significance is associated with Gooseberry or Nellikkai (Awala or Amla) and Karthigai Masam. It is believed that hearing stories of Muruga or Kartikeya under the Nellikkai tree will help in attaining good health and prosperity.

If food is taken under the gooseberry tree it will help in good health. If food is offered to the hungry or poor people or any living being under a gooseberry tree it will help in fulfilling your prayers and desires.

It is also said that if women of the family eat under the nellikai tree in Karthigai Masam it will help in the prosperity of the entire family.

Significance of Gooseberry or Nellikkai in Karthigai Masam is mentioned in the Padma Purana and Skanda Purana. The popular belief is that during the Karthigai month gods and sages reside on the Nellikkai Tree. Therefore worshipping the tree during the period can help in destroying sins and in fulfilling wishes.

Importance of Vibhuti – Significance of applying sacred ash or Vibhuti on the body

The popular belief in Hindu tradition is that applying Vibhuti, or Bhasma, or sacred ash, on forehead and other parts of the body will help in redemption of sins. It is also believed that Bhasma which is made using burned cow dung has the power to cure various diseases and it also helps in improving physical and mental health. In Hinduism, Bhasma or Vibhuti is associated with Shiva.

While applying Bhasma one should chant the mantra – Om Namah Shivaya. Bhasma should be applied using the middle three fingers – not the thumb and the little finger.

One should take Bhasma in the left hand and apply it using the right hand.

Bhasma applied on forehead and on the middle of the head will help in removing lethargy and laziness.

Vibhuti applied on neck, hand and chest will help in redemption of sins.

Some saints are known to apply Bhasma all over the body. This is in adoration of Shiva. It is also believed that this will help in removing sins committed in previous births.

The Benefits Attributed to Different Rudraksha Faces

The benefits of wearing a Rudraksha bead have been mentioned in several Hindu religious texts. Rudrakshas are commonly associated with Shiva worship and hence important references of the bead appear in texts that are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Rudraksha Jabalopanishad, from the Sama Veda and one among the 108 Upanishads, deals extensively with the benefits and worship of Rudraksha.

The Padma Purana states that the Rudraksha showers its benefit on an atheist and a devotee without any discrimination. Chandrajnana, a Shaiva Agama, states that Rudrakshas that are of copper color, hard and big with intricate designs are of special value. Those Rudrakshas without a proper shape, broken lines, worm inflicted and broken should not be used. Meru Tantra, a Shaiva text, states that the power of a Rudraksha bead increases with its size.

Rudraksha Jabalopanishad details about the benefits attributed to different Rudraksha faces.

Single-Faced: It is the form of the Supreme Truth (Brahman) and helps in realizing the supreme truth.

Two-faced: It is the form of Ardhanarisvara and helps in good living on earth with one’s partner.

Three-faced: It represents Agni (some suggest it represents Trimurti).

Four-faced: It represents Brahma and helps in all-round development.

Five-faced: It represents Panchabrahman (five-faced Shiva) or Kalagni Rudra and helps in overcoming sins committed.

Six-faced: It represents sons of Shiva – Kartikeya and Ganesh – and those wearing the bead attain wisdom and wealth.

Seven-faced: It represents Seven Matras and a devotee attains health and purity of mind.

Eight-faced: It represents eight-fold nature (five elements and mind, matter and ego). It also represents eight Vasus.

Nine-faced: It represents Durga and her various forms (Navashaktis) and removes fear of death.

Ten-faced: It represents Ten Yamas and a devotee achieves peace of mind.

Eleven-faced: It represents the eleven forms of Rudra (Shiva).

Twelve-faced: It represents Lord Vishnu and twelve Adityas and a devotee wearing it attains moksha.

Thirteen-faced: It represents ‘Kama’ (the god of love).

Fourteen-faced: It represents Rudra when he created the Rudraksha out of his eyes.

Reader of Hindu Blog saying that Hinduism has too many gods and it is confusing. Too many gods is a criticism leveled against Hinduism. And it is also used by some people to attack Hinduism.Now, if you put this question to a Hindu scholar, he/she will quote from religious texts to explain about the numerous gods. A common man might not understand many of the quotes and explanations.

Now, Hinduism is not a religion and it does not have a founder. It is a way of life. So depending on the need of the hour, region, Nature and environment, people are free to create their own gods, forms of worship and celebrations.

Some people need god to escape from the fear of death. Some need god for solving their day-to-day issues. After doing all the hard work, some people feel the need for that extra help, which is provided by God. So everyone needs ‘a form of God’ to pray to. Each individual depending on his/her need and liking, can choose a form to pray to.

After all nobody has seen God. So each person has the right to imagine his/her form of God. Also a single God gives a feel of dictatorship.

Or at least, we'll be creating the illusion that the photo is made up of small puzzle pieces.. cut around all the pieces with scissors and make an actual puzzle out of it, but as I like to say,why fumble around with reality when faking things in Photoshop is so much easier.

an Englishman could not construct sentences using numeric, which is exclusive only to Malaysians and Singaporeans.

Ah Lek was asked to make a sentence using 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,10.
Not only did he do it 1 to 10, he did it again from 10 back to 1. This is what he came up with.....

1 day I go 2 climb a 3 outside a house to peep. But the couple saw me, so I panic and 4 down. The man rushed out and wanted to 5 with me. I ran until I fell 6 and threw up. So I go into 7-eleven and grabbed some 8 to throw at him. Then I took a 9 and try to stab at him. 10 God he run away.

10 I put the 9 back and pay for the 8 and left 7-eleven. Next day I called my boss and told him I was 6. He said 5 , tomorrow also no need to come back 4 work. He also asked me to go climb a 3 and jump down! I don't understand. I am so nice 2 him but I don't know what he 1.

How's your day? Relaxing? Tiring? Bored? lol.

Mine was pretty tiring. Me,my dad n my mom went out at 11am to my dad's friends wedding.As you all know this month is very very special for wedding.So after my dad's friends wedding we moved to another wedding which is my computer class sir's wedding..Atlast we wanted to go for another wedding at PJ,but we couldnt so just went to their house to say Hello and so on..Talked for a 30min and we came back home.

Around 5pm i was checking my mails..Suddenly i received an email from my friend.

Subject: Fatwa-fatwa yang akan datang

In this email they written that :

Orang Islam dilarang memakan di kedai Mamak. Walaupun mamak kebanyakkannya Islam, tetapi asal usul mereka adalah India dan ada kemungkinan terdapat unsur-unsur India di dalam perniagaan mereka seperti bercakap Tamil dan memakai seluar dalam buatan India . Untuk mengelakkan sebarang syak wasangka, mulai 1 Mac 2009, orang Islam dilarang dari memakan di kedai mamak (kecuali Tun Mahatir kerana dia sendiri mamak kelas I).

Im not kidding.Please people think when there are so many important things remain to be done, why must the Fatwa folks spend their time on little things. Doctors have concluded that if you find the man in the coffee beans in 3 seconds, your right half of your brain is better developed than most people. If you find the man between 3 seconds and 1 minute, your right half of the brain is developed normally. If you find the man between 1 minute and 3 minutes, then the right half of your brain is functioning slowly and you need to eat more protein. Navarathiri Festival in September & October, AKA the Nine Nights Festival.Navarathiri' is an annual festival celebrated by Hindus.This festival lasts for nine nights and is divided into 3 segments of 3 days each, Each segment is devoted to one at a time. These three god's are Sri Durga, Sri Lakshmi & Sri Saraswathy.

We(Atmasiva Aashremem people) also celebrating Navarathiri in our mandram( LAkshmi Pooja Dyna Mandram) for nine days. Prayers are held for first three nights for Goddess ‘Thurgai’ (bravery), second three nights for Goddess ‘Lakshmi’ (wealth) and the final three nights for Goddess ‘Saraswathy’ (education).

The tenth day is very auspicious and it is called Vijayathasami.

In a Puranic story an Asura called Mahisasuran had ill-treated and harnessed devas and to get away from his cruelty they approached Ambigai and narrated the harassments of this Asura and requested her to free them from the Asura.

Ambigai destroyed this Asura on Vijayathasami and relieved the devas.

They spent a couple of days and nights on a farm as what would be considered as a very poor family. On their return from the trip, the father asked his son, "Son, how was the trip..??". "It was great Dad.." the son answered. "Did you see how poor people live??" asked the father again. "Oh yeah" said the son. "So tell me, what did you learn from the trip??" the father asked.

The son replied.

"I saw that we have one dog and they have four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden and they had a creek that has no end.

We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.

Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.

We have servants to serve us, they serve others.

We buy our food, they grow theirs.

We have walls to protect our property, they have friends to protect them."

The father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks for showing me how poor we are.."
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing??

Side story:

There, met 2 ang mo(husband and wife). They were very shocked to see this live, and curious.
They asked me, what are you all doing?
I answered: 'Opening of public toilet'.
The wife laughed...
The husband was behaved, asked me without laughing: 'any special?'
I said:'high tech, auto cleaning. Our DPM will open it in a short while.'
Both after listening.. reluctantly smiled and said: ' oh...i See, very Interesting.... '

THIS IS HOW WE MISS OUT SOMETHING CALLED 'LIFE'

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the kitchen totally forgot the matter. The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated by its color and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how to face her husband. When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just five words.

QUESTIONS :

1. What were the five words ?
2. What is the implication of this story?

ANSWER :

The husband just said 'I am with you Darling'

The husband's totally unexpected reaction is a proactive behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother. Besides, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle away, this would not have happened.. No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her. If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective, there would be much fewer problems in the world. 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step'. Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears. And you will find things are
actually not as difficult as you think.

MORAL OF THE STORY:

This story is really worth reading. ..... Sometimes we spend time in asking who is responsible or whom to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people we know. By this way we miss out something called L.I.F.E

Therefore, I as the Head of Graduates of University of Malaya would like to advice all our fellow graduates of University of Malaya to combine forces and prepare ourselves together with all the necessary knowledge and preparation before we continue our fight in the actual battle field. This advice implies mainly to our Malay Graduates. We must treasure the sacrifices made by our ancestors which tried so hard to ensure that Tanah Melayu (Malay Land) is free from the intrusion of alien races. We must not fall into the category of those who forgets their roots until they will be taken over by other races. Graduates must prove themselves that we are capable and the best choice to take over the throne of governing the country in the future. This implies with the theme of MPMUM Progressive, Dynamic, Professional. There is nothing more important that can compared to our always-sensitive and improving Graduates. I also would like to advice all Malay Graduates to prepare ourselves in facing all sorts of unpredicted challenges that may occur in near future, relating to the rise of our fellow citizens, in particular to the non-Malay races. Don't let ourselves slack and allow our 'enemies under the blankets to attack us' (direct translation from the Malay idiom). Don't allow our Malaysia to fall into the hands of those who are irrelevant.

CONGRATULATIONS: Universiti Sains Malaysia pro-chancellor Tan Sri Dr Lin See-Yan conferring the Doctor of Science honorary degree on former Indian president Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (right) yesterday. The scientist was instrumental in developing India's nuclear sector back in the 1990s.

Adiperukku, a thanksgiving to the river Kaveri...Aadi festival is celebrated for the birth of the tamil month of Aadi (July - August).This festival is special for various Ammans. Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays of this month are considered very auspicious. A lot of festivals are celebrated in the month of Aadi. This tamil month marks the beginning of all festivals during the festival season. Tamil month Aadi is an auspicious month that has five Fridays. All these Fridays especially the 1st, 3rd and 5th are very auspicious.

Today is the last Friday of the Tamil month ‘Aadi’. And like all Fridays of this month, this day is considered sacred - especially for worship of the “Energy” aspect of God, the feminine aspect of the Supreme, Amman….. I took a chance and visited Amman Temple at Malacca and these is the photo's which i managed to snap.

Aadiperukku, water ritual through religious practice: In India the rivers Ganges and Yamuna, Cauvery and Gothavari are considered sacred. Just like the earth gives us food, water is considered as a sacred necessity to meet the needs of individuals. People began to worship water in the form of wells, tanks and rivers. Playing to the tune of Aadiperukku folk songs and KUMMI by group by young women are the major attractions during this festival.
